Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about using the Liftd app to track workouts, get AI recommendations, and crush your fitness goals.

Getting Started

How do I download the Liftd app?

Liftd is available for free on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play). Search for 'Liftd' or visit liftd.ai/download to get the direct link for your device.

Is the app really free?

Yes, completely free! The Liftd app is free for all gym members. Your gym pays for the service so you can track workouts, get AI recommendations, and monitor your progress at no cost.

Do I need an account to use Liftd?

Yes, you'll need to create a free account. This takes about 30 seconds—just enter your email and create a password (or sign up with Google/Apple). Your account keeps your workout history synced across devices.

How do I find if my gym uses Liftd?

Look for QR code stickers on the gym equipment. If you see QR codes with the Liftd logo, your gym is set up! You can also ask the front desk or search in the app's 'Gyms' tab.

What if my gym doesn't use Liftd?

You can suggest Liftd to your gym owner! Share liftd.ai with them. In the meantime, you can still use the app for manual workout logging, but the QR scanning features won't work until your gym joins.

Can I use Liftd at multiple gyms?

Absolutely! If you visit different gyms that all use Liftd, you can scan and track workouts at any of them. Your complete workout history stays unified in one place.

What devices are supported?

Liftd works on iPhones (iOS 14+) and Android phones (Android 8+). We recommend updating to the latest OS for the best experience.

Is there a web version?

Currently, Liftd is mobile-only. The app is designed for quick, on-the-go logging at the gym. A web dashboard for reviewing your history is on our roadmap.

Scanning & Logging Workouts

How do I scan a QR code?

Open the Liftd app and tap the scan button (center of the bottom navigation). Point your camera at the QR code on the machine. The machine is instantly recognized—no need to search or scroll.

What do I do after scanning?

After scanning, you'll see the machine name and your last workout on it. Enter your weight and reps, then tap 'Log Set.' That's it! The whole process takes about 3 seconds.

Can I log multiple sets?

Yes! After logging a set, you can immediately log another. The app remembers your weight, so you just need to enter reps. A rest timer can auto-start between sets if you enable it.

What if the QR code won't scan?

Make sure there's enough light and the code isn't damaged or dirty. Try holding your phone steady at a slight angle. If it still won't work, you can manually search for the machine in the app.

Can I edit a workout after logging it?

Yes, go to your History tab, find the workout, and tap to edit. You can change the weight, reps, or delete entries you logged by mistake.

What if I forget to log a set?

You can add workouts manually anytime. Go to History, tap '+', and enter the details. It's best to log in real-time, but we understand sometimes you forget!

Does scanning work offline?

Yes! Liftd has offline mode. You can scan and log workouts without internet. The data syncs automatically when you're back online.

Can I use NFC instead of QR codes?

If your gym uses NFC tags (and your phone supports NFC), yes! Just tap your phone on the NFC tag instead of scanning. The experience is the same.

How do I log cardio workouts?

Scan the QR code on the cardio machine (treadmill, bike, etc.) and enter duration, distance, or calories—depending on what metrics you want to track.

Can I log exercises without a machine?

For free weight exercises or bodyweight movements, your gym might have a 'station' QR code (like 'Dumbbell Area'). Otherwise, use manual entry in the app.

AI Recommendations

What are AI recommendations?

Based on your workout history and goals, Liftd's AI suggests what weight, reps, and sets you should do next. It applies progressive overload principles to help you continuously improve.

How accurate are the suggestions?

The AI gets smarter as you log more workouts. Initial suggestions are based on general fitness principles; after a few sessions, they're personalized to your actual performance and progression.

Do I have to follow the AI recommendations?

Not at all! They're suggestions to guide you. If you want to go heavier or lighter, do what feels right. The AI will learn from what you actually do.

How does the confidence indicator work?

The AI shows 'High,' 'Medium,' or 'Low' confidence. High confidence means lots of data supports the recommendation. Low confidence means it's more of an educated guess—maybe you're new to that exercise.

Can I set my fitness goals?

Yes! In your profile settings, choose your goal: strength, muscle building, weight loss, or endurance. The AI adjusts its recommendations accordingly (e.g., lower reps for strength, higher reps for endurance).

What is progressive overload?

Progressive overload means gradually increasing the stress on your muscles over time—more weight, more reps, or more sets. This is how you get stronger. The AI helps you do this systematically.

Why is the AI suggesting I go lighter?

Sometimes the AI suggests deload (lighter weight) based on your recent patterns. This could be for recovery, or if your performance has been declining. Trust the process—it helps prevent injury and plateaus.

Does the AI consider injuries?

If you add injury notes in your profile (e.g., 'recovering from shoulder injury'), the AI will be more conservative with recommendations for related exercises. Always consult a doctor for medical advice.

Progress & Stats

How do I see my workout history?

Tap the 'History' tab in the app. You'll see all your workouts organized by date, with stats like total sets, volume (weight × reps), and workout frequency.

What stats does Liftd track?

We track: total weight lifted (volume), personal records, workout frequency, sets per muscle group, workout duration, and streaks. All visualized in easy-to-read charts.

What's 'total volume'?

Volume is the total amount of weight you've lifted, calculated as weight × reps for each set, summed up. For example: 50kg × 10 reps × 3 sets = 1,500kg volume. It's a great measure of workout intensity.

Can I see progress for specific exercises?

Yes! Tap on any machine in your history to see a chart of your performance over time—weight progression, rep ranges, and personal records for that specific exercise.

How do I filter my history by muscle group?

In the History tab, tap the muscle group filters (Chest, Back, Legs, etc.) to see only workouts for that area. Great for checking if you're balanced.

Can I see weekly or monthly summaries?

Yes! The Home screen shows your weekly summary. For longer periods, go to History and tap 'Stats' to see monthly and all-time views.

How do workout streaks work?

Your streak counts consecutive days (or weeks, based on your settings) that you've logged at least one workout. Miss a day and it resets. Streaks are powerful motivation!

Can I export my workout data?

Yes, go to Profile → Settings → Export Data. You'll get a CSV file with your complete workout history that you can use in spreadsheets or other apps.

Personal Records (PRs)

What is a PR?

PR stands for Personal Record—the best you've ever done on an exercise. Liftd tracks PRs for weight (heaviest lift), reps (most reps at a given weight), and volume (most total weight in a set).

How does Liftd detect a new PR?

Automatically! When you log a workout that beats your previous best, the app celebrates with a special animation and badge. You don't need to do anything—we track it for you.

Where can I see all my PRs?

Go to Profile → Personal Records. You'll see a list of your best performances across all exercises, organized by machine and muscle group.

What's the difference between weight PR and volume PR?

Weight PR: heaviest single weight you've lifted on that machine. Volume PR: highest total in one set (weight × reps). You might not hit both at once—10 reps at 60kg is more volume than 1 rep at 80kg.

Can I manually add a PR from before I used Liftd?

Currently, PRs are only tracked from workouts logged in Liftd. We may add manual PR entry in the future.

Do PRs count at any gym?

Yes! A PR is a PR, no matter where you achieved it. If you hit a new best at a different Liftd gym, it counts.

What happens if I break a PR?

The new record replaces the old one. We keep a history of your previous records so you can see your progression over time.

Why didn't my PR register?

Make sure you logged the workout correctly (right weight and reps). Also, PRs only count for completed workouts, not edited entries added later. Contact support if you think there's a bug.

Travel & Multi-Gym

What is Travel Mode?

Travel Mode activates when you work out at a gym that's not your 'home' gym. Your workout is tagged as a travel workout, and the AI adjusts recommendations since equipment might be slightly different.

How do I set my home gym?

Go to Profile → My Gyms and tap the star icon next to your primary gym. This becomes your home gym. You can change it anytime.

Can I use Liftd at any gym?

You can use Liftd at any gym that has Liftd QR codes installed. The app works globally—if you travel abroad and find a Liftd gym, just scan and go!

What is the Gym Passport?

The Gym Passport in your profile shows all the gyms you've worked out at. It's like a travel log for fitness enthusiasts who work out at multiple locations.

Does my history follow me to other gyms?

Yes! Your complete workout history is tied to your account, not a specific gym. The AI uses all your data regardless of where you logged it.

What if the travel gym has different equipment?

The AI recognizes you're at a different gym and may suggest alternative exercises if your usual machine isn't available. It adapts to what's around you.

Can I discover new gyms using Liftd?

Yes! The 'Gyms' tab shows Liftd-enabled gyms near you. Great for finding places to work out when traveling or exploring new areas.

Is there a cost to use Liftd at multiple gyms?

No, the app is free no matter how many gyms you visit. Each gym pays for their own Liftd subscription; members use it for free everywhere.

Rest Timer & Workout Flow

How does the rest timer work?

After logging a set, the rest timer can automatically start counting down. You'll get a notification when it's time for your next set. Set durations are customizable in settings.

Can I customize rest times?

Yes! Go to Profile → Settings → Rest Timer. You can set different durations for compound exercises (longer rest), isolation exercises, and core work.

How do I skip the timer?

Tap the timer to skip it early, or swipe to dismiss. The timer is there to help, not restrict you.

Can I disable the rest timer?

Yes, you can turn it off entirely in settings. Some people prefer to manage rest intuitively.

Does the app track workout duration?

Yes, the app tracks time from your first scan to your last logged set. You can see workout duration in your history.

What's the best rest time between sets?

It depends on your goals. For strength: 2-5 minutes. For hypertrophy: 1-2 minutes. For endurance: 30-60 seconds. The default timer is set to a balanced 90 seconds.

Will I get a notification when the timer ends?

Yes, you'll get a notification and optional vibration when your rest period is over. Make sure notifications are enabled for Liftd in your phone settings.
